Dior Christmas Tree at the Plaza Athenee
To celebrate the festive season, Cordelia de Castellane, Creative Director of Baby Dior, has reinterpreted the House codes to decorate the Christmas tree located in the lobby of the Hotel Plaza Athenee from 15 December to 7 January. Standing five meters tall, it will be embellished with baubles sparkling like stars or printed with quotes from Monsieur Dior, along with bows and decorations in white and gold. The base of the tree will feature a cluster of presents, a medallion-back chair and Gabriel the teddy bear, the emblematic Baby Dior toy.
This is the first time that the luxurious Parisian hotel, situated only steps from 30 Avenue Montaigne, welcomes a Christmas tree through which Dior revisits childlike wonder to evoke the magic of a season beloved of Christian Dior.
From the opening of his couture house, the Hotel Plaza Athenee was a favored haunt and place of inspiration for Christian Dior. Its façade regularly served as the backdrop to his creations, immortalized by the photographer Willy Maywald. While some of his designs carried evocative names such as Plaza or Athenee, the iconic Bar suit from the first collection is an ode to this essential destination, the perfect place for a late-afternoon drink. The house models used to come to unwind after long hours of fittings, wearing Dior cocktail dresses and attracting admiring glances from the upscale international clientele. They were also regulars in the Relais Plaza, its elegant bistrot conceived in the purest Art Deco style.
This Christmas tree decorated by the house of Dior at the Hotel Plaza Athenee is an embodiment of the special relationship that exists between these two legendary names, emblems of French luxury, flanking the most elegant avenue in Paris.
