14/03/17 - Shangri-La's Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius
Art vs Food
Shangri-La's Le Touessrok Resort & Spa is delighted to announce the extension of their partnership with up-and-coming Mauritian modern artist; Gael Froget. Appointed as the artist-in-residence for the iconic hotel when it re-launched last year, Froget's contemporary style strikes a balance between pop art and primitivism. Art vs Food is a collaboration between Froget and Executive Chef Filippo Abisso, conceptualising vibrant Mauritian pop art through a dynamic five-course menu - interpreted as "the art of the table".
Available exclusively to patrons of Republik Beach Club & Grill, Chef Abisso has blended art and gastronomy into a hedonistic menu - fusing Froget's grotesque pop art vandalism with exquisite European flavours. This vision is reflected in all aspects of the venue, from the decor to the music, with an aim to inspire creativity through regular artistic interactions, be it with sculptors, painters, or musicians. A backdrop of mini easels, set against a panoramic Indian Ocean vista, showcase Froget's lauded art vandalism against each of the corresponding five courses of Chef Abisso's sensory menu - a folio of which patrons will be invited to take home.
Menu highlights include Rock n Roll Lobster; butter-poached rock lobster tail served with garden vegetables, fennel shavings, tomato marmalade and lobster Riesling bisque, Duck Me I'm Famous; pan-fried, truffle-infused duck liver served with a nut butter sauce, crushed potatoes and fig jam, Lamb of God; roast rack of lamb "provencale" served with butternut squash fondue, young greens and rosemary and garlic jus, and Chocolate; 6 Feet Deep; six textures of chocolate, including mousse cremeux, brownie, ice cream, tuile and molten sauce.
Located on the hotel's exclusive Frangipani islet, the stylish Republik Beach Club & Grill is a contemporary lifestyle destination in itself. In addition to the restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine and charcoal fired barbecue grills there is also a chic bar where guests can revel in style against a soundtrack of live music, themed nights and performances by local and international DJs, and a bohemian-style beach lounge.
Republik Beach Club & Grill exclusively uses organic produce of the finest quality. A trolley service for continental breakfast offerings is available in the morning with an a la carte breakfast, along with sparkling wine served by the glass. The team offers the signature service which the iconic Mauritian hotel is feted for; a blend of Mauritian openness and Asian hospitality, combined with the dynamism of a show kitchen and bar.
The menu is priced at Rs 3,000. For reservations, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, call +960 689 7888 or visit www.shangri.com/mauritius
