New Traditional Afternoon Tea at The Dorchester
Head pastry chef David Girard has launched a new traditional afternoon tea offering at iconic British hotel, The Dorchester, for 2017. Delicate pastries are inspired by the hotel's reputation for the most beautiful floristry by designer florist Philip Hammond, its location next to Hyde Park's Rose Garden and the hotel's close association with RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Above all else, the tea focuses on The Dorchester's commitment to offering the best tea experience in London, where taste and pastry standard are paramount.
New season pastries include:
Mayfair Rose - a delicate, palest pink, rose-shaped mousse of light lemon basil with a sharp strawberry insert
Apple Petal - layers of the finest slices of apple "petals’" arranged to resemble a rose in a light bed of puff pastry with almond cream
Plum Bloom - folds of deep red edged plum, layered to resemble a flower in full bloom on a sweet paste base lodged in a light custard cream
Caramel Buds - a classic Saint Honore, a cluster of choux buds filled with light vanilla cream coated with melted caramel
Berry Blossom - berry compote infuse with thyme, edged with a meringue pipe and finished with a crystalize flower specially grown for The Dorchester in Wales
Hazel Nut - a crunchy praline base, topped with a chocolate hazelnut cream with a salted caramel heart, dipped in a hazelnut case of almond and dark chocolate
The tea is accompanied by a new palate cleanser in the form of a "Flowering Tea". The Flowering Teas are artisan made, artistic, compositions of green tea and flowers that open into beautiful floral bouquets when brewed.
Stretching the length of London landmark Nelson's column, The Promenade at The Dorchester was designed by Thierry Despont with rich coral-coloured silk draperies, plush green and gold brocatelle-upholstered tufted divans, soft olive green sofas, and custom gold-framed mirrors to create a series of rich, warm intimate spaces for afternoon tea.
With so many guests wishing to visit The Dorchester to experience afternoon tea, the hotel now offers an Afternoon Tea and Stay package including luxury accommodation for two, traditional afternoon tea for two and breakfast, Mondays to Fridays only, bookable online from 595 pounds.
The Promenade's sumptuous afternoon tea is frequently recognised with an Award of Excellence by The British Tea Guild (2013, 2012 and 2011) and voted Top London Afternoon Tea three times in seven years.
